About Us — Sage College Coach

Who We Are

We've Sat on Both Sides of the Table

We've read the applications. We've made the decisions.
Now we're sharing what we know.

It Started at a College Fair

If you've ever been to a college fair, you know the scene. Hundreds of families moving table to table, arms full of brochures, trying to make sense of it all in ninety minutes. And behind those tables? That's where we were — representing our universities, answering questions, and doing our best to help every family we met.

When you work college fairs long enough, you start to notice something. You hear the same questions — important ones — asked over and over again. But you also notice the questions that aren't being asked. The ones that would actually change a family's entire approach to the process if they only knew to ask them.

Between events, on flights home, over late dinners in hotel restaurants in cities we'd barely seen — we'd talk about it. The families who were clearly doing their homework, and the ones who were making decisions based on outdated assumptions, a school's reputation alone, or simply what a neighbor's kid had done. We kept saying to each other: if they only knew what we know.

We kept meeting families who were smart, caring, and deeply invested in their child's future — but making decisions without the information that could have changed everything.

We Know What Happens After You Apply

Here's what most families don't realize: the admissions process doesn't end when you click "submit." That's where our side of the work begins.

We've been the people who return from fair season to the admissions office and sit down with the applications. We've worked with the automated systems that sort and score them. We've coordinated with individual colleges within the university — because each one tells us how many students they can take this year, what programs are at capacity, and where there's room. That matters more than most families know.

We've been in the room for the roundtable discussions — the ones that happen when a student's application lands on the bubble. We've seen what moves the needle in those conversations and, just as importantly, what doesn't. We've watched small details — things a family might not think twice about — tip the decision one way or the other.

And we've seen families make choices that worked beautifully, because they understood the process. We've also seen talented, deserving students get caught off guard — not because they weren't qualified, but because no one told them how things actually work behind the scenes.

Inside the Process

We've worked with the systems, the committees, and the decisions. We know how applications are actually evaluated — not how people assume they are.

🤝

Relationships Built on the Road

Years of traveling the college fair circuit taught us what families truly need — and it's rarely what they think to ask about first.

🎯

What Moves the Needle

We've been part of the conversations that determine who gets in when it's close. We know what matters and what's just noise.

A Changed Process

College admissions today is not what it was when you applied. The rules, the tools, the strategies — they've all evolved. We help you catch up.

Why We Built Sage College Coach

For a long time, the only people who got our real advice were the ones closest to us — friends, family, the parents who happened to linger at the table after the fair ended and ask the right follow-up question. That never sat well with us.

The reality is, most families only go through the college process once or twice. Maybe three times if you're lucky enough to have several children heading to college. That means you're making one of the biggest financial and personal decisions of your family's life with very little experience and a lot of conflicting information.

Meanwhile, we've seen it hundreds of times. We know where families stumble. We know which assumptions lead to expensive mistakes. We know what questions to ask, when to ask them, and how to think about the decision in a way that accounts for fit, value, and long-term return — not just a name on a sweatshirt.

Sage College Coach exists because we finally decided to stop keeping that knowledge inside our circle. Every family deserves access to the kind of guidance that used to be reserved for the people who happened to know someone in admissions. We wanted to take what we've learned — from the fairs, from the admissions offices, from the committee rooms — and put it in the hands of the families who need it most.

College is a major investment of time, energy, and money. We believe families shouldn't have to navigate that decision without someone in their corner who's seen how it all works from the inside.

What Guides Our Work

We don't believe the goal is simply getting accepted. Acceptance letters are wonderful — but they're not the finish line. The real goal is helping your student choose a college where they're going to be happy, supported, and set up for long-term success. A place that's the right fit academically, socially, and financially. A decision your family can feel genuinely confident about.

That's why everything we create — our guides, our tools, our content — is built around wise decision-making. We talk about fit because we've seen what happens when students end up at schools that look great on paper but aren't the right environment for them. We talk about value because we've watched families overextend themselves financially when a smarter option was available. We talk about outcomes because we've seen, again and again, that where a student thrives matters more than where they're admitted.

We approach every piece of guidance the same way we'd approach a conversation with someone we care about: honestly, thoughtfully, and with the full benefit of everything we've learned from years inside the process.
